Christmas Payoff – Tales of the Texas Rangers (12-23-51)

It is 4pm on the afternoon of December 25th 1940, in the small West Texas town of Rockfield. In his office Dr Hartley and his nurse are just clearing up after treating an emergency case, which has taken the doctor away from his family on this Christmas day. As they are preparing to leave the Doc sees a man in a car that the nurse tells him has been waiting for 2 hours. Dr Hartley knows who it is and why he has come. He tells his nurse to hide in the supply cupboard. The man comes in to the surgery and shoots the Doctor dead at close range. The only clue the Texas Rangers have, is a note, which says, “The payoff is soon”.
